DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS

JANUARY 9th, 2015

Georgia’s Youth Art Month theme for 2015 is POP ART!

The Pop art movement challenged the traditions of fine art by using imagery from popular culture such as advertising, movies, comics, news, and mundane cultural objects. Product labeling and logos were commonly examined by pop artists, like in the Cambell’s Soup Can labels, by Andy Warhol.

The Pop art movement is a detailed record of society’s daily experiences at this moment in history. Think of how far society has come in the last 60 years. What products or logos would best define today’s culture? What are some everyday objects that could be examined as subject matter in art?

For the 2015 Youth Art Month Flag Design Contest, choose an item, product, or logo from today’s popular culture and recreate it to incorporate the words ‘Youth Art Month’ or ‘YAM’! Some ideas may include taking a food/candy label and changing the words to say YAM, while still using the color schemes and logo designs that define that item.

GUIDELINES:

-Incorporate our state theme in design (see above)

-Designs should incorporate the words “Youth Art Month” or “YAM”

-EMAIL submissions to Katie Vanhoff at katievanhoff@gmail.com. Please send a high quality, digital image of the artwork.
